Bunnies 'love' show jumping

Pet lovers attending a Yorkshire animal event have been treated to an agility display by bunnies.

Rabbit Jumping UK recently held one of the first events of its kind, which saw the creatures competing against each other to navigate hurdles.

The contest formed part of the Bradford Excel Small Animals Show, held at the Yorkshire Event Centre in Harrogate.

Maureen Hoyle, from the bunny jumping group, explained how she was inspired to set up the competitions when she saw how popular they were in Scandinavia when she visited the region.

On her return to the UK, she launched the organisation and set about raising the profile of the sport, which involves rabbits being fitted with harnesses then encouraged to jump over obstacles.

"The rabbits love it. The rabbits are very agile and a lot of people are surprised by what they can do," said Ms Hoyle.

In other news, the Jackson Sun recently highlighted the growing popularity of cat agility contests.
