Stowaway kitten saved

A kitten which faced being put down after surviving a gruelling three-day journey has been saved by a flood of donations.

Ronaldo was found in a haulage vehicle after travelling from Portugal to the UK for three days without food and water.

Rescuers called the Northamptonshire Animals Need Nurturing and Adoption charity which took the ten-day old kitten into their care.

Unfortunately the charity was unable to meet the costs of Ronaldo's quarantine fees which were set at £1,600, meaning that the stowaway would be put down.

However, after a public appeal the fees have been met and the kitten has been given a new lease of life.

Petrina Alderman, chairman of the charity, revealed that she was delighted at the response from the public which included donations of money, bedding and toys.

"We can't thank people enough. We've been inundated with calls and emails from the US, UK and Europe with donations," she told Sky News.

The stowaway was first discovered last week in a lorry parked at a Northamptonshire branch of Matalan.
