Thousands turn out for horse show

Thursday, 21 August 2008
A new horse show has attracted thousands of proud owners keen to show-off their pets' talents.

Equifest, organised by the East of England Agricultural Society, kicked-off on August 15th and runs until September 7th.

The show has so far had up to 2,500 entries for a host of different competitions including Dressage, Driving, and Unaffiliated Show Jumping.

Pet owners have been able to enter a wide range of horses into the competition such as mountain and moorland kinds, which have proved the most popular.

Andrew Mercer, chief executive officer of East of England, revealed that the show is proving to be popular with visitors and their pets.

"We've received some excellent feedback," he told Horse and Hound.

"It's only possible to put something like this on because we've got a great team of people working for us and a great team of volunteers."

The final weekend of the show will centre on the Shire Horse of the Year Show, in addition to the Rare Breeds Show and Horse Turnout Championship.
